
FESTIVAL Concerto Competition
The first-place winner will receive full tuition and a solo concerto performance with the Festival Orchestra. There are prizes for second and third place as well.
Eligibility:
Heartland Chamber Music Festival Concerto Competition is open to all violin, viola, cello, and bass students who are between the ages of 12-26. Winners must be able to participate at Heartland Chamber Music Festival
July 24 - August 1, 2020.
2020 Festival Scholars fellowship recipients are not eligible for the competition.
How to Enter:
*Complete the application form.
Application due by May 1, 2020
*Festival Early Registration due by April 15, 2020 ($155)
*Festival Late Registration due April 15- May 1, 2020 ($175)
(Includes 2 complimentary adult tickets to the Parker Quartet )
*Plus Concerto Competition Registration Fee: $25
*All application materials (application form, competition video recording and application fees) must be received by
May 1, 2020.
Video Submission:
The competition is judged by video recording submission.
(no live auditions).
Video recordings must be received by May 1, 2020. Vimeo, YouTube, Dropbox and Google Drive weblinks can be submitted in your online application form.
Competition Repertoire:
The competition repertoire requirements:
Perform a movement from any standard concerto with String Orchestra, or a single movement solo work with String Orchestra. Video audition must be performed from memory. If awarded first prize, this is the piece that you will perform. For questions please contact: jlee@heartlandchambermusic.org
Accompanist:
All works composed with accompaniment must be accompanied. Piano reductions are acceptable.
Judging and Prizes:
Judges may include the string faculty from Heartland Chamber Music, the string faculty from the UMKC Conservatory of Music, and the musicians from the Kansas City Symphony.
The judging process will begin after May 1st.
Winners will be announced and emailed by May 15th, 2020.
1st, 2nd and 3rd places will be awarded:
The 1st place winner will receive a solo concerto performance with the Heartland Festival Orchestra on Saturday, August 1, 2020, 7:00 pm at the Yardley Hall at JCCC’s Carlsen Center, and a full-scholarship prize (fee and room/board not included) to attend the Heartland Chamber Music Festival in summer 2020.
The 2nd place winner will earn a spot in the Festival’s Camerata Chamber Orchestra (to be featured in a live performance on Kansas Public Radio), a performance opportunity in a public masterclass presented by Festival guest artists, a full-scholarship prize (fee and room/board not included) to attend the Heartland Chamber Music Festival in summer 2020.
The 3rd place winner will earn a spot in the Festival’s Camerata Chamber Orchestra (to be featured in a live performance on Kansas Public Radio), a performance opportunity in a public masterclass presented by Festival guest artists, and receive a $400 scholarship prize to attend the Heartland Chamber Music Festival in summer 2020.
Recognition of winners will take place at the start of the Festival. Every participant will receive a participation certificate.
